The John Lege Project is committed to aiding African children who, through no fault of their own, are victims of war, rebel abductions, human trafficking, abuse and poverty. JLP is in difficult places at difficult times, supporting small, culturally sensitive and self sustainable initiatives to provide education, housing, medical care, security and refuge to young people most in need, primarily in South Sudan and Uganda.
JLP was founded by Candace Scharsu, an independent New York-based photographer who has dedicated her life to bettering the conditions of children in the most under-served areas of Africa. Our founder’s experience at working with in-country service providers and personally monitoring aid results for funding partners means that support of JLP provides direct and effective aid to those most in need.
